The Help The book, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, is about a women named Aibileen who is a black maid. She is taking care of her 17th white baby now. She works for a woman named Miss Leefolt. Aibileen has never disobeyed an order in her life and never intends to do so.Medgar Evers (character in The Help and real life Civil Rights Activist) was killed by a white man in 193 because he was a leader of the NAACP and played an active role in the Civil Rights Movement.The Help Is an American novel that represents an era of civil rights, written by the point of view of a white educated southern woman, in a very different time period of what the book is set in. The Help takes place during the 1960’s in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Help is shaped by the struggles of the Civil Rights movement. The end of the Civil War in 1865 abolished slavery in the United States. However, the southern states introduced a number of laws that kept black people in inferior positions: black people and white people were not allowed to use the same libraries, bathroom, water fountains, schools, theaters, train cars, or other public.The novel The Help by Kathryn Stockett takes place in Jackson, Mississippi, during the 1960s. A period that saw the segregation of blacks and the superiority of whites dominate the southern United States. The novel focuses on the colored help and their work environment, greatly emphasizing the help’s relations with their white employers.
